The first Mother’s Day was celebrated in 1908 when Anna Reeves Jarvis established a day of observance to honor her mother and all mothers. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson would go on to sign Mother’s Day into law. Mother’s Day is a special time of year for all families. What better time to honor and show gratitude to your Mom? While some prefer a more traditional celebration, others explore a more adventurous day together. Why not attend an event in a senior living community such as Beacon Crest Senior Living?
LUNCHEON
Mother’s Day is the busiest time of year for restaurants. When planning a luncheon with your family, make sure to take into consideration that the wait times will be long without a reservation. Don’t want to fight the crowds? Gather the family together at your home. Everyone can pitch in while Mom relaxes on the couch. Make sure to make yummy appetizers while she waits.
PICNIC
Would you like to get outside and appreciate nature? Why not plan a picnic? Wherever you live, May is usually moderate weather for most places. Besides packing a delicious meal, you can bring games to play as a family. Not a fan of games? Plan a hike together once the lunch has finished. Make sure to take plenty of photos and videos for future memories.
SCRAPBOOKING
If you are not interested in making food to celebrate Mother’s Day, there are other options to honor the day. Ask each family member to bring copies of their five favorite photos with Mom. As a family, create a scrapbook with photos and list your favorite memories on the pages. By the end of the day, there will be quality family time, and Mom will have a gift from everyone that commemorates their favorite times together.
TEA PARTY
Would you like something more formal for Mother’s Day? Why not attend a tea party? Senior living homes, such as Beacon Crest Senior Living, offer tea parties in honor of Mother’s Day. You will not have to fight the crowds at a restaurant. Escort your mom from her suite to the event, where you both can relax and let the staff do the work. Whether you choose to have lunch, hike, scrapbook, or attend an event, quality time together will be what families will remember.
