Fun Ideas to Celebrate the Fall Season for Older Adults

October 7, 2022

Is it the fall season already? Where does the time go? Time can pass quickly, and the season is over before we know it. One way to slow down time is to celebrate each season with activities that correlate. As the weather is cooling down, it is time for the fall activities to begin! We have compiled a list of fun ideas to help celebrate the season. Are you not sure how to find activities near you? Check out your local senior living community calendar. Senior living homes, such as Beacon Crest Senior Living, offer many fun activities.

ATTEND A FALL FESTIVAL
There is nothing like enjoying the crisp days of fall while enjoying a juicy apple, delicious pumpkin pie, or hot chocolate. Whether it be a street fair, apple picking, or a pumpkin carving event, there are often many events available due to the mild weather of autumn. There are many farms that offer apple picking this time of year. Once you have brought home your apples, you can bake a pie or make cider. Pumpkin patches often offer hayrides to and from your pumpkin picking. Carve pumpkins with your grandchildren or paint your favorite faces on the pumpkins instead. Fall festivals can include crafts, live music, and delicious snacks. Check with the local paper or your favorite website to find events near you.
JOIN A BOOK CLUB
Do you love to read? Consider joining a book club. If you have not participated in a book club before, check out your local library, as they often host a monthly book club. The way it works is the host chooses the book, the members read it and gather with the other members to discuss the book. Do you like cozy mysteries? Gather with a few of your friends to pick your favorite author. Meet up in a month, make snacks, and share what you enjoyed about the book. If the first month goes well, maybe you can start your own book club. You can choose the snacks and beverages offered to correlate with the book theme. Not sure what to read? Check out this list of popular books.
CHOOSE A PUZZLE WITH AN AUTUMN THEME
Maybe you would like a quieter way to spend your fall afternoon. Do you love puzzles? Why not choose one to help you get in the autumn mood? You can choose a fall scene, trees with changing colors, or a holiday theme. What about the atmosphere? If you prefer the quiet, settle in and build your puzzle in your home. Would you like to add music? There are playlists available on streaming services, like Spotify, which feature music about the fall season. Do you want to chat while you do your puzzle? Invite friends to join you or call your family and put the phone on speaker. Whether you organize time with friends, time with family, or fly solo, enjoying a puzzle can help you relax.
PLAN A GAME NIGHT OR MOVIE NIGHT WITH FRIENDS
Do you remember the game Clue? Is Monopoly more your speed? How about Trivial Pursuit? Hosting a game night at your home can bring its own fall fun. Choose cuisine that matches the game you are playing to help get you in the spirit. What about a movie? Many films feature the fall season as part of the story. Make some popcorn, buy some licorice, and create a movie theater inside your home. You can make it a weekly event where each friend gets to pick the weekly movie. At the end of the month, you can host your own Oscar party to decide which movie was the best. Whether you choose to play games, make puzzles, attend a festival or join a book club, enjoy this time and make this your best autumn yet!
