Are you considering a move into a senior living home? Older adults can often concern themselves with what they will be giving up. Indeed, there is a shift in life responsibilities when moving into a senior community like Beacon Crest Senior Living. Now might be a good time to reflect on the unexpected things you will be giving up. We have compiled a short list of what to let go of when making this choice.
HOME MAINTENANCE/PROPERTY TAXES/PAPERWORK
Did you know senior living communities handle building maintenance, landscaping, licensing, and property taxes? All of the details you used to worry about are alleviated. Are the property taxes due? The owners handle it. Do the trees need pruning in the front? The landscaping company hired by the senior living home will take care of it. Is a lightbulb out on the porch? You do not need to worry. After spending a relaxing day with your friends while enjoying activities, you can rest your head on your pillow and trust they have handled all those pesky details.
MEDICAL VISITS
Not another doctor’s visit! First, you will hold for what can feel like forever waiting to schedule an appointment. Next, you need to organize someone to drive you to your visit. Once at the office, you have to double-check they received your medical history from your last doctor, then schedule a follow-up appointment. Finally, you will need another ride to pick up your prescription before heading home. Guess what? When living in a senior living home, the doctors come to you. There is a nursing staff twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There is a doctor specializing in elderly care that makes regular visits to your room. Need a specialist? The staff will organize transportation to and from the visit. Afterward, they will track any changes in your medication and handle all the paperwork for you. Still worried about what you are giving up when moving into a senior living community?
DECIDING WHAT TO COOK
What is for dinner tonight? How many times have you heard that question? Now you can be the person to ask the question while enjoying home-cooked meals prepared by culinary trained chefs. Do you miss being in the kitchen? Have a seat and enjoy watching the chefs cook your meals. Visit with your friends while chefs prepare the food in front of you. Do you have dietary limitations? The medical staff has already communicated these requirements to the chef, and they will prepare your meal with the nutritional guidelines in place. Are you not excited about the meal for lunch? Give the chef 24-hour notice to prepare something off the a la carte menu for you to enjoy. You are feeling stuffed after finishing your meal. Who is going to do the dishes? Not you! There is an activity down the hallway you are welcome to join with your friends. Breakfast in bed on special occasions? Now you can have breakfast in bed every morning if you prefer. The worries of grocery shopping, food preparation, and clean-up are alleviated when living in a senior community. Your only concern will be choosing which dessert to have after dinner.
ORGANIZING TIME TO MEET UP WITH FRIENDS
Life gets too busy sometimes. Finding time to meet up with friends can feel like a challenge. Not when you live in a senior living home! Open your door, step into the hallway, and say hello to your neighbor. Not sure what you should do today? There are activities planned every day for your enjoyment. Some examples are shopping trips, crafts, movie nights, special events, and field trips to outside venues. What about your old friends from your neighborhood? They can come for a special meal. Just let your chef know they will be joining you. Do you want to attend a party with your friends? Invite them to your monthly events like the community carnival, the luau, or the fashion show. Current residents at Beacon Crest Senior Living have reported a more active social life after moving into a senior community than in the past twenty years.
